“My name is Kurt. That’s Wendell, Greg and Fyodor. Three months ago I answered an ad and moved into a lovely, just a really nice little four bedroom, two bath apartment off Rochelle and Second. But what you have to understand is at the time of my answering their ad, I was not aware that my future roommates were, respectively, The Gabriel Killer, The East River Hangman, and Doc Bloc. It was also before I realized that they let me move in because they think I am The Subway Slayer. Please don’t tell them I’m not a serial killer.”
Kurt is an ordinary guy with a very unfortunate living situation: His three roommates are all notorious local serial killers. And even worse, they're under the (false) impression that Kurt is the equally-infamous Subway Slayer! But times are tough and he's making it work. At least, he WAS, until his girlfriend Caroline pops by for an impromptu visit. Flatting can be hell, but this place is absolute murder.
Written by emerging LA playwright Leland Frankel and presented by the international theatre enomads of Restless Ecstasy, Slaughterhouse is a tense, blood-splattered horror comedy that mixes acserbic social satire with gory violence, touching romance and blacker than black humour. Featuring a cast of some of London's finest young talent and played in the company's trademark bold, breakneck style, Slaughterhouse is an evening of bloody fun that posits the most surreal, violent and twisted flat-share scenario since TV's The Young Ones.
Artists: Playwright Leland Frankel is an LA-based playwright currently living in Boston, Massachusetts. He is a graduate of both UCLA's School of Theatre, Film, and Television and The American Repertory Theatre (A.R.T.) Institute at Harvard University. His work has most recently been produced with The Fountain Theatre, Savage Players Theatre Company, the Festival for New American Musicals, and more. When he's not hunched over a keyboard, Leland enjoys ocean swimming, photography, and the music of Bruce Springsteen. As a screenwriter, he is represented by Jordan Bayer of Original Artists Agency.
Director Owen Lindsay was born in Dublin, Ireland and raised in Auckland, New Zealand. Returning to Ireland in 2005 having completed an BPA (Bachelor of Performing Arts) at Auckland University, he spent several years working and studying in Dublin before undertaking an MA in Classical Acting at Drama Centre London. Previous directing credits include Normal and Antenora (Restless Ecstasy), the Operas Suor Angelica and La Clemenza di Tito, (Giornata Opera) and fight direction for Julius Caesar (Classic Stage Ireland), Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and The Tempest (Say Two Productions). Assistant directing credits include Hamlet (Icarus Theatre Collective) and Macbeth (Say Two Productions).
Cast: Jack Cosgove as Kurt: Originally from Jersey, Jack trained as an actor at LIPA. Credits include The Importance of Being Earnest, Alice in Wonderland, Hamlet (all London Contemporary Theatre), 1984 (Selladoor Theatre) and Oedipus (Lazarus Theatre).
Grace Blackman as Caroline: Grace trained at Arts Educational, National Youth Theatre and National Youth Film Academy. Credits include feature films "Eleven" and "Angel of Auschwitz", theatre productions include "Nannies" at the Tristan Bates Theatre as well as multiple short films.
John Faulds as Greg: After growing up in the Isle of Man and a brief flirtation with a military career, John trained at East 15 Acting School. Credits include Macbeth (Ceridwen Theatre), Absent (Dreamthinkspeak) and two seasons with Produced Moon.
Adrian Gawell as Fyodor: Adrian is a Swedish actor/director who moved to London in 2012 to attend Kogan Academy of Dramatic Arts. Upon graduating Adrian has performed in plays at both Brighton and Camden Fringe festivals, toured the country with the Splats Entertainment shows of Macbeth and A Midsummer Night's Dream and starred in numerous short films. He's recently picked up writing as well and in early 2018 his adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, that he wrote, directed and acted in, was performed for the first time in Southport. He recently released a Swedish short film called Brottarn and his first horror short Teddy is currently in pre-production. Ben Bruckshaw as Wendell: Ben trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Recent credits include Moment of Grace (Bloomsbury Festival), Murder on the Terrace, Northanger Abbey (Heartbreak Productions) and Der Rosenkavalier (Royal Opera House).
Chantelle Stewart as the Victim: Originally from Gateshead, Chantelle recently graduated from the Birmingham School of Acting. Since graduation she has toured a devised production of The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari to venues in Serbia and Hungary. Roles while training include The Orestia, The Cripple of Inishmaan and Cymbeline (all BSA).
